Ergonomics in the classroom

Dynamic sitting: PantoSwing and PantoMove

Here, the chair adapts itself, not the pupil: in the case of the PantoSwing cantilevered chair, the seat-surface inclination alters due to the mass eccentricity of the weight in a forward or rearward direction. In other words, in a forward sitting posture, the seat surface inclines because, unlike conventional cantilevered chairs, the PantoSwing “swings” forwards. In this way, the spinal column is prompted into a dynamic balance and a stabilised posture.

The PantoMove swivel chair has a dynamic seat surface with 3D tilt mechanism. In this way, it provides the optimum preconditions for ergonomically sensible dynamic sitting. The chair follows every movement of the body, simultaneously prompting the posture to change continuously. Thus the PantoMove adapts itself consistently to the needs of the user – it does not block movement; instead, it supports movement. Compared with chairs with rigid seat surfaces, important muscle groups are in this way activated without tensing in the process.

The PantoSwing can be individually adapted in five different chair sizes (seat height 30 cm, 34 cm, 38 cm, 42 cm, 46 cm and 50 cm). The PantoMove is infinitely height-adjustable – from a seat-surface height of 34 to 45 cm or from 45 to 55 cm. It can thus be adjusted with exact precision to the height of the respective pupil. A further plus point: the entire chair-size requirements in the school, from junior school to upper school, can be covered with a single chair model.

The PantoSwing and PantoMove school chairs are ideally equipped for the most stringent of tests – day-to-day school use. Both models are available with a comfortable air-cushion seat shell made from structured polypropylene, a particularly hard-wearing and scratch-resistant material. The material is fully recyclable. Behind this is a VS development which has already been proving itself very well in schools for many years.

The PantoSwing and PantoMove school chairs are available in various colours. This offers the opportunity of customising the colour scheme in the classroom.

The PantoSwing LuPo and PantoMove LuPo chairs are tested and recommended by "Bundesverband der deutschen Rückenschulen e.V." and the "forum: Gesunder Rücken – besser leben e.V." For more information, contact AGR e.V., Postfach 103, D-27443 Selsingen, www.agr-ev.de

Infinitely height-adjustable: the Ergo desk/table.

The Ergo school desk/table is infinitely adjustable by crank handle over the full height spectrum from 56.5 to 82 cm. In other words: the entire requirements in the school can be covered with a single model. And in the process a desk/table solution that is ergonomically exemplary in every respect can be realised.

For ergonomic support the desk/table top can also be infinitely inclined from 0° to 16°. Individual adjustment can be performed quite easily by the pupil him- or herself at the touch of a button. In this way, the Ergo universally ensures an optimum working posture. The desk/table top’s ability to incline serves to avoid incorrect postures; the sitting posture is maintained during writing phases.

Flexible furnishing: the Ergo can be quickly and directly adapted. In this way, it simplifies the job of furniture planning in the school. And cuts out the highly laborious task of transporting furniture of differing sizes back and forth.

The Ergo opens up additional possibilities thanks to its easy handling. The desks/tables can thus also be used for example in the younger classes from time to time as high desks, a useful addition to working when sitting from a physiological point of view. High desks can be ideally incorporated into teaching for small group work or during open learning. The Ergo is made mobile by its optional castors: teaching and work organisation in the classroom can thus be structured even more freely.

The Ergo III single desks/tables are tested and recommended by Bundesverband der deutschen Rückenschulen e.V. and the forum: Gesunder Rücken – besser leben e.V. For more, information, contact AGR e.V., Postfach 103, D-27443 Selsingen, www.agr-ev.de

Height-adjustable in six steps: StepByStep.

Thanks to its height adjustability, the StepByStep school desk/table covers all the chair sizes – from junior school to upper school. Only one model is needed to cover the entire requirements in the school. One model, however, that is extremely flexible and adapts itself – step by step – to different size requirements.

The working height can be positioned in six steps in a range from 53 to 82 cm. Adjustment is performed either with an Allen key or with a handwheel; both variants are protected with a child lock. The result: the StepByStep offers every pupil the correct working height.

Organisation made easy: height adjustment can be performed by the pupils themselves or by the caretaker. Handling is easy; classrooms can be equipped with modern furniture without any great organisational effort.

For ergonomic support StepByStep also offers as an option inclination of the desk/table top – in five steps from 0° to 20°. The school desk/table comes in three variants: with horizontal top, with one-part inclinable top and with two-part inclinable top and horizontal storage in every position. The top can be inclined directly by the pupil.

Extra mobility in teaching: as a particularly practical desk/table solution, the StepByStep school desk/table also offers as an option castors integrated into the front floor glide elements. This ensures extra mobility and increased flexibility. Because the furniture is not static, the forms of teaching do not have to be static either.

The StepByStep III single desk/tables are tested and recommended by Bundesverband der deutschen Rückenschulen e.V. and the forum: Gesunder Rücken – besser leben e.V. For more information, contact AGR e.V., Postfach 103, D-27443 Selsingen, www.agr-ev.de

Flexible PC workstations

A natural requirement of office workstations today, namely that they be specially geared towards working on PCs, also applies to the workstations of pupils if they work during school hours on and with computers.

The Network-Media computer desk with its lockable cable channel running along the back provides for an unrestricted working environment. Tables can be linked and networked.

Duo-Media desks offer ergonomic orientation to PC applications and convenient setup of the full work and training station. The steel skid desks are designed in such a way that the CPU can be attached on either the inside or the outside. A CPU bracket and CPU box (also lockable) are available for this purpose; they can be secured directly to the desk legs. The cables are routed vertically through an easy-to-integrate rising perforated-plate channel, the horizontal cable channel is accessible through a lockable sliding mechanism on the desk top. The desks can be linked to each other and networked.

Integra from VS is two desks in one: a normal pupil’s desk and at the same time a fully equipped computer workstation. Flatscreen monitor, keyboard and mouse are accommodated in an easily extendable perforated-plate section. The desk turns into a full computer workstation in no time at all. The effect: more flexibility in the classroom, more opportunities for modern teaching. The CPU box is optionally lockable; the desk top can be removed for cabling.

The PC-Training system facilitates intensive individual working in an area shielded against interference from the surroundings. The triangular elements can also be used to put together quickly and flexibly group tables for study groups or discussions. The minimal basic triangular shape makes various combinations (such as, for example, a star-shaped setup) possible. In this way, the PC-Training system supports both individual work and group learning situations.

With MediaMobil it is possible to create very easily inside the classroom a mobile multimedia terminal on which individual pupils as well as small groups can work. It can be used entirely according to individual requirements by different classes and simply pushed backwards and forwards for this purpose. As a stand-up terminal, MediaMobil ensures an ergonomically sensible change of working posture from sitting to standing in the classroom.

Networked teaching becomes a reality with the Series 600 LapTop module. The cabinet is fully electrified and provides spaces for 16 pupils’ laptops and one teacher’s laptop with storage battery and mouse. Further devices can be placed on the cabinet and can be wired through the back of the body.

The telling feature is that all the computers are connected via the module not only to the power-supply system but also to the integrated radio network. In this way, they can be centrally configured by the teacher via the server. During teaching the pupils have access with their laptops at all times, for example, to the Internet by wireless LAN or they can access the server.

The Series 600 LapTop module is fitted with castors and can therefore be moved easily between different classrooms.
