Sitting. Standing.

The office as habitat

Experts in industrial medicine are increasingly calling for more movement in the office – in other words a natural balance of movements between sitting and standing while working. People who move can think more clearly. A working day should therefore be balanced out between sitting, standing and moving.

Many employees today perceive the lack of movement in the office to be a strain; the health and economic consequences of a permanently sitting posture are to a certain extent out in the open but not yet universally known. The aim of up-to-date office planning therefore is to provide employees with concrete opportunities to move about through suitable workplace layout and furnishing.

It is therefore also necessary to plan work surfaces at standing height. The best solution here is a comfortably height-adjustable, individual workstation with a sufficient range of movements which comfortably supports a change of posture between sitting and standing. For this purpose VS offers the electric infinitely height-adjustable, ergonomically exemplary Series 901 table system, on which the desired table height can be easily adjusted at the touch of a button.

Communication furniture encouraging movement

The first ergonomic requirement is for at least the working height of the table to be individually adaptable. VS table systems are equipped with either a crank or a grid mechanism to allow the table height to be adjusted.

Communication furniture which is used by workers while standing encourages movement – and is therefore ergonomically positive. Such furniture not only provides for increased movement while working by inviting employees, for instance, to hold talks or make phone calls at the stand-up table. Compared with talks held while in the sitting position, standing usually shortens the duration of the talks – thereby promoting work efficiency.

Separate stand-up tables can be used in the workplace for this purpose; the simplest and most cost-effective solutions are, however, infinitely height-adjustable communication tables such as RondoLift from VS, which can be used while employees are both sitting and standing. A table of this kind can be quickly and effortlessly adapted to every requirement by means of comfortable electric height adjustment and thus supports to sustained effect the ergonomically important continuous changing of posture.
